The renewal of intelligence in  Jesus-Christ

To contemplate the beauty of an art creation, one must necessarily see it. To properly internalize what another person does in terms of best practice in any field, one must first have seen or read but mostly understood what he is doing. This is how many athletes, businessmen, ministers of the Gospel have excelled in their field.

On the other hand, not seeing, being aware or learning what someone else is doint better than you may make you believe that you are the best in your field when in reality this is not the case. For example, a person who has always used a bicycle to move may think that it’s the fastest means of transport, while he is unaware that in reality there are far more rapid, more efficient or even more comfortable !

It’s the same with many people today who believe that they are doing better certain things when in reality they are not. They believe they walk according to the will of God, when in reality they are very far from Him. They believe they are doing good while they are doing wrong, they believe they are telling the truth when in fact they are telling lies. This situation of ignorance of the truth is what God calls spiritual blindness.

Many people are sadly blinded nowadays by sin. Their voluntary or unintentional ignorance of the truth drives them to continue to live a life that does not please God. Sin restrains man in ignorance, in darkness, sin prevents man from experiencing the glory of God.

Romans 3: 23-26

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;  To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

We understand from the scriptures that the perfect will of God is that every people be justified and come back to Him by means of the new birth. That’s to say, receiving Jesus Christ freely in their lives as Lord and Savior. It’s given to men the ability to make this choice.

But the question that can be asked: how to be born again?

This is exactly the same question that Nicodemus asked to Jesus Christ (Read John 3: 1-21). So His answer was clear by saying that it’s a matter of spiritual new birth. The new birth leads to the renewal of intelligence. In other words, as long as we are not yet born again, it’s impossible to experience the renewal of intelligence.

The renewal of the intelligence implies the rejection of all one’s past life by adopting a new walk in Christ. The renewal of intelligence has the advantage of delivering men from the blindness caused by sin.

As we said before, it’s impossible to contemplate something that you don’t comprehend. Thus the renewal of the intelligence allows us to contemplate the glory of Christ and to experience its wonders. God’s will is for everyone to experience his glory. But as He is an ordained God, His kingdom is ruled by principles. So whoever wants to experience the glory of God in any field including studies, marriage, career, ministry is called first of all to align with the will of God.

Hence the more we align ourselves with the will of God, the more we are transformed into the same image as Christ, the living word and our perfect model: from glory to glory!

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Therefore, in the light of the scriptures, we understand that the renewal of intelligence is not done in one day: it’s a process and new lifestyle to adopt. Receiving Jésus Christ is the first step that must be taken, then comes the new lifestyle that needs to be adopted. Opting for the camp of light also requires walking in the light: we can’t pretend to walk in the light if our hearts are still filled with old habits and bad practices. The renewal of the intelligence implies a walk according to the model of Christ and it’s in this that He takes pleasure in us.

The renewal of intelligence involves the abandonment of the works of the flesh, covetousness, theft, masturbation, homosexuality and all those similar things that do not please God.

Romans 12: 1-2

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

One last question we can ask ourself: How to keep on straight in the process of renewing intelligence?

To maintain an irreproachable walk in this process it’s necessary to know more the will of God for every area of life. Because some people engage in practices that do not necessarily honor God simply because of their ignorance of what God says about it.

It’s therefore the continuous meditation of God’s word that grants us access to the necessary light in order to know the best attitude to adopt according to the word of God. You can read the article we wrote on the subject of the importance of knowing the word of God.
